A note from Mr. Kominowski...

Welcome to another fantastic year at York! It has been so nice meeting the new families and seeing our returning families at the Kindergarten Open House and Meet the Teacher night. The first few weeks have been busy learning procedures, starting our intervention groups, and diving into our curriculums. Parental involvement is essential for enduring a positive and productive school environment and we invite you to be a part of what we do. The staff is ready to help each child grow into mature, confident, and successful adults. Watching our students learn and strong relationships forming, I am excited to see what this year will bring. Thank you all once again, for trusting us with your children and allowing us to watch them grow.

Housekeeping...

Please make sure you have completed and turned in the forms from your child's packet. It is essential for us to keep all of your information up to date. If changes with phone numbers, addresses, or contacts occur throughout the year, please call the office or update PowerSchool by logging into your account.

If your child will be absent, arriving late or leaving early for an appointment, please contact the office at 574-825-5312.

We love having parents in the building helping in classrooms, visiting at lunch, being a mentor, chaperoning field trips, etc... Anyone wanting to participate in these activities must have a background check on file. The link below will direct you to our volunteer background check page. Once completed, the check is good for two calendar years. If you have questions, please contact the office.

York Elementary Mentor Program

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on people in a variety of personal and academic situations.
Expectations of a Mentor:
  • Consistency is key to mentoring success. Therefore, we ask our mentors to commit to meeting with the student 30 minutes once a week whenever possible. All mentoring visits occur during the school day.
  • As a mentor, we are simply asking you to build a positive relationship with a student through playing a game, reading together, working on a puzzle, etc.. The ultimate goal is relationship building through quality time.
  • Notify Mr. Kominowski or Mrs. Hamood if you are uncomfortable or unsure about anything that is said to you during your visit.
If you are interested in being a part of the York Elementary mentoring program or have any questions please contact Mrs. Hamood, 574-822-5097. Thank you for investing your time to make a positive impact on a child.
