A note from Mr. Kominowski...

Welcome to what promises to be another fantastic year at York! It was so nice meeting families, old and new at our kindergarten open house and back to school night. The first few weeks have been very busy and full of learning. Parental involvement is essential for ensuring a positive and productive school environment and we invite you to be a part of what we do. The staff is ready to help each child grow into mature, confident, and successful adults. Watching our students learn and strong relationships forming, I am excited to see what this year will bring. Thank you all once again, for trusting us with educating your children and allowing us to watch them grow.

The link buttons below are our School-Parent Compact and our York Parent Involvement Policy for those that missed Mr. Kominowski's original message.

York Mentor Program

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees young people that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Research confirms that quality mentoring relationships have powerful positive effects on people in a variety of personal and academic situations.
Expectations of a Mentor:
  • Consistency is key to mentoring success. Therefore, we ask our mentors to commit to meeting with a student 30 minutes once a week whenever possible. All mentoring visits occur during the school day.
  • As a mentor, we are simply asking you to build a positive relationship with a student through playing a game, reading together, working on a puzzle, etc. The ultimate goal is relationship building through quality time.
  • Notify Mr. Kominowski or Mrs. Hamood if you are uncomfortable or unsure about anything that is said to you during your visit.
If you are interested in being a part of the York Elementary mentoring program or have any questions please contact Mrs. Hamood (574)822-5097. All mentors will need to complete a level 2 volunteer background check with a cost of $5.00.
Thank you for investing your time to make a positive impact on a child.

York PTO News

We hope everyone is settling into the school year well. It is always fun to pop in the school and see smiling faces! We have some big things coming up with the PTO and want to make sure you are aware. Thanks to everyone who sent in staff appreciation funds. We are excited to start honoring our staff. If you missed the opportunity, you're welcome to still send in any amount in an envelope marked "Staff Appreciation PTO" and we will put that in our account.
Save the date for September 19th for an event called MUSTANG NIGHT! More details will be coming home soon, so be on the lookout.

Current PTO officers: President: Sara Borowski, Vice-President: Allison Mahan, Secretary: Bri Nannet, Treasurer: Kim Hansen

We start monthly meetings in September and we always welcome new faces! We would love to see you there and hear your ideas on supporting the school. Upcoming meetings are September 10th and October 8th at 3:15 pm in the school library.

Housekeeping...

School picture day is Wednesday, September 10th. You may pre-order a photo package by visiting: www.inter-state.com/order. Use order code: 0113EZF

Update Us: Please make sure you have completed and returned the forms from your registration packet. It is important for us to keep all of your information up to date!

We have revised our volunteer screening procedures. Effective immediately, we have two levels of our background check. Level one background checks are for individuals that wish to volunteer in the classroom, lunch guests, and volunteer for PTO activities. Level two background checks are for individuals who would like to chaperone field trips or be a mentor. Level 2 is a higher level background with a cost of $5.00 and is required to be renewed every 2 years.

Cafeteria News

Our cafeteria provides birthday treat options for classroom treats. Order forms can be requested through the school office. If you choose this option, please make sure you send in the order form and payment at least one week before the celebration.

LinqConnect is available to deposit money into your child's lunch account electronically. You will need your child's student ID, found in PowerSchool, to get set up. Please contact the school office if you have any questions. Be on the lookout for a message or note when your child has a negative balance.
